"Tents will not be demolished, but entry to protest area will be made through metal detection frames," - Prosecutor General Lutsenko

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko said the tents near the Verkhovna Rada will not be demolished. Law enforcers will check everyone who enters the protest area.

He wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

Lutsenko wrote that the right for peaceful protests is one of the most important achievements of Maidan.

"The government is patiently doing its best to secure this norm of the Constitution.

"I know for sure and will prove it some day that part of the protest organizers banked on provocations only.

"Secret services possessed information and have established facts of storage and purchase of weapons by illegal gangs members who were among the protesters.

"This is why we need enhanced security measures by the Interior Ministry. Their task is the security of protest participants, of Kyiv and the state.

"The tents will not be demolished.

"But in order to avoid provocations and for the sake of security of protesters themselves, the entry to the protest area will be conducted through metal detection frames.

"Any changes in the country are only possible through political dialogue. Violence will kill the country.

"Physical beating of citizens, law enforcers who are protected by the law, and MPs will be prosecuted," Lutsenko wrote.

As reported, a protest with a request to hold a political reform in Ukraine is being held Oct. 17 at Verkhovna Rada building in Kyiv. Organizers of the protest say the key demands are to change the system of election in Ukraine, including a shift to proportional election system with open candidates list, restriction of political advertising on TV, creation of anti-corruption court, and restriction of parliamentary immunity.

Former Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili said that if the MPs do not fulfill the protesters' demands on Oct. 17, some of them might stay at the Rada building for indefinite protest. SBU reported earlier it had prevented a possible provocation during Oct. 17 mass events in Kyiv.
