Organizers of protest in Kyiv attempted to destabilize situation in Ukraine, they needed blood, - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said the chief organizers of the protest near the Verkhovna Rada building in Kyiv downtown aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country, and their official demands were just a cover-up.

"The chief organizers have shown that their official demands were just a cover-up. The real plan of their activities is to destabilize the situation in Ukraine," the president said during a visit to 10th Mobile Border Guards Unit in Bortnychi, Kyiv larger area, on Friday.

The president said that the official demands of the protesters coincide with the initiatives of the president in part of the anti-corruption court proceedings, including parliamentary immunity.

He noted that after the Verkhovna Rada sent the bill on the immunity to the Constitutional court, the political forces said they were ending their part of the protest.

Poroshenko reminded that law enforcers disrupted attempts to buy weapons, found caches with weapons and ammunition and explosives. The president believes the organizers didn't need changes, "they needed blood."

As reported, a protest with a request to hold a political reform in Ukraine started on Oct. 17 at Verkhovna Rada building in Kyiv. Organizers of the protest say the key demands are to change the system of election in Ukraine, including a shift to proportional election system with open candidates list, restriction of political advertising on TV, creation of anti-corruption court, and restriction of parliamentary immunity.

Former Odesa governor Mikheil Saakashvili said that if the MPs do not fulfill the protesters' demands on Oct. 17, some of them might stay at the Rada building for indefinite protest. SBU reported earlier it had prevented a possible provocation during Oct. 17 mass events in Kyiv.
