11 NATO Warships Entered the Black Sea in Support of Ukraine. PHOTOS

The 2nd Mediterranean permanent NATO Mine Group - Standing NATO Mine Countermeasure Group SNMCMG2 ships passed Bosphorus to the Black Sea July 3, 2014.

It consists of Italian frigate F-583 ITS Aviere (flagship), Italian minesweeper 5561 ITS Rimini and Turkish minesweeper M-270 TCG Akçay. Turkish submarine type Atılay and Greek patrol boat P-266 HS Machitis entered the Black Sea as well. Mine Countermeasure Group is heading to Bulgarian naval base in the port Burgas. Turkish Navy submarine type 209/1400 Preveze / Gür entered the Black Sea 1 July 2014. 4 Turkish tank landing crafts (TLC) - TCG C-151, TCG C-155, TCG C-156, TCG C-157 entered the Black Sea previous day, June 30, 2014.

Earlier, the Italian Navy reconnaissance ship A-5340 Elettra is in the Black Sea since June 15, 2014. French Navy scout ship 759 Dupuy de Lôme is also in the Black Sea since June 16, 2014.

According to naval experts, this coincidence of visits to the Black Sea of a large number of warships of the NATO countries is not random and aims to demonstrate military support of NATO to Ukraine in connection with the annexation of the Crimean peninsula as a result of Russian aggression and the continuing battles with participation of the Russian mercenaries in the Donbas.

The formal reason for this was the international naval exercise Breeze 2014 in the western part of the Black Sea from July 4 to 13.

The warships of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey and the United States as well as the U.S. patrol aircraft will be involved in the exercise.
