A fraudster was detained in the Mykolaiv region, pretending to be a specialist in searching for missing or captured Ukrainian soldiers and cheating their families out of money.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.

In return for up to UAH 7,000 for one soldier, the woman promised his family to find the Ukrainian defender and provide them with information about his whereabouts and physical condition.

"However, immediately after receiving the money, the offender cut off communication with the victims without providing them with any information about their relatives who are servicemen. In this way, the offender defrauded more than half a thousand families of almost UAH 2 million," the statement said.

According to the Security Service, the woman managed to deceive more than 500 families of the Armed Forces.

The woman created fake online groups on social media called 'Search for the Missing' and 'Come Back Alive'.

There, she offered her "detective services" and indicated her own bank card number for transferring funds, allegedly to solve "current" issues related to the search for missing persons.

SSU officers documented more than 50 facts of the fraudster receiving money from deceived families. During the searches at the suspect's residence, the SSU found 20 mobile phones, a tablet and 64 sim cards, which she constantly changed to disguise the fraud.

The detainee has been served a notice of suspicion under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud) and taken into custody. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and the exact number of citizens defrauded.
