The SBU exposed an FSB agent who was preparing a series of Russian air attacks on transport and energy infrastructure in Vinnytsia region. To carry out the enemy’s task, he reconnoitered the locations of railway hubs that could be used to transport heavy weapons and ammunition to the frontline.
This was reported by the SBU press service, Censor.NET reports.
It is noted that the Russian informant also tried to determine the location of key power substations in the region and obtain information about their technical condition.
"He was supposed to send the intelligence to his FSB 'supervisor' via an anonymous mailbox. The "report" included the exact coordinates and photos of Ukrainian objects with georeferencing and textual explanations.
According to the suspect, the occupiers planned to strike critical infrastructure in the region using missile weapons and kamikaze drones," the statement said.
In case of success of the hostile operation, the Russian special service "guaranteed" its agent a monetary reward of 100 thousand rubles. The funds were to be transferred to his bank card. In addition, after completing the task, the offender hoped that the FSB would "evacuate" him to the territory of Russia.
However, SBU officers prevented the aggressor's plans and detained his accomplice at the stage of gathering intelligence to pass it on to the occupiers.
"According to the investigation, the detainee is a 57-year-old resident of the Khmilnyk district, who was remotely recruited by the Russian special service in May this year. He came to the FSB's attention because he shared his pro-Kremlin views on his Odnoklassniki page," the press service said.
During the search, the SBU seized a mobile phone used by the offender to communicate with the aggressor.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
He is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing. The offender faces life imprisonment.
