The SBU jointly with the National Police in Odesa eliminated another channel of illegal departure of persons liable for military service from Ukraine. The deal was organised by the head of a local company engaged in the employment of citizens abroad.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.
As noted, under the guise of recruiting civilian personnel, he searched for potential recruits and offered them his assistance in illegal trafficking to the European Union for money. To illegally cross the border, the offender sold his client's fictitious disability certificates and "write-offs" from the military register. In addition, the businessman hid the fugitives in the cabs of trucks engaged in international flights. To do this, he involved his friend, the head of a local transport company, in the scheme. The cost of such "services" was up to $8,000. The amount depended on the method and urgency of the flight abroad.
Law enforcement officers documented the criminal actions of the defendants and detained the organizer of the deal when he received money for illegally transporting a person liable for military service across the border. His accomplice, the director of the transport company, was also detained.
The two detainees were served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine committed by an organized group). The offenders are in custody. They face up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. Information about the possible involvement of other officials in the scheme is being checked.
