The ministry reported that three lines of fortifications are almost completed. Their total number is 268 including 240 built by the efforts of the Regional State Administrations and 28 by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The first line is controlled by the Armed Forces detachments while the National Guard defends the second and third ones.
"The government allocated about 850 million hryvnia (up to $37 million) for the construction of fortifications where the experienced builders were involved in. About 600 kilometers of fortifications in the east were created in the shortest possible time," the statement reads.
According to representative of the Main Directorate of Engineering Support Colonel Serhii Martseniuk, the fortifications withstood the hits of all types of small arms, rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, and heavy artillery during testing.
"The fortifications have already proven their efficiency in real combat conditions. The enemy suffered considerable losses during the battles near Marinka, where fortifications have been erected, but could not break through our line of defense," Martseniuk said.
