Activists tried to storm Russian consulate in Odesa: law enforcers used tear gas. PHOTOS

A #FreeSavchenko rally at the Russian consulate in Odesa ended in clashes between activists and police.

A rally in support of Nadiia Savchenko started in Odesa in the morning. About 150 people gathered near the monument to Taras Shevchenko, setting off for the Russian consulate a bit later.

At first, activists burned an effigy of President Vladimir Putin outside the consulate and started to pelt the entrance gate with red paint. Then, a clash occurred between protesters and police, where the latter had to fire tear gas.

"A rally in support of Nadiia Savchenko is underway outside the Russian consulate in Odesa. Activists are beating metallic barrels. Civil Security Council activists are going to pelt the consulate with eggs, have stabbed a Putin's effigy with knife. The Putin's effigy has been burned down, activists started to throw red paint at the entrance gate. Activists in Odesa tried to storm the Russian consulate, a clash occurred between them and law enforcers, who had to fire tear gas," hromadske.tv broadcast on Twitter.

"Attempting to assault. Fighting with cops is getting serious," leader of Odesa Right Sector Serhii Sternenko wrote on his Facebook page and published photos of the scene.
