Ukrainian civilian Volodymyr Zhemchuhov, who had incidentally tripped a wire, is being held captive by "Luhansk People's Republic" militants and is being accused of sabotage activities.

As reported by Censor.NET, Zhemchuhov's wife, Elena, addressed Novaia Gazeta with a request to publish her husband's story.

"Both his arms have been amputated, he does not see, and was wounded in his belly and leg. It's been eight months as "LPR" does not let him be swapped. He is in hospital now, feels bad, but that plan to place him in pre-trial detention," Elena said to reporters.

Official Kyiv believes that Zhemchuhov is a civilian who incidentally tripped a wire on Sept. 28, 2015. "LPR" militants say he is a saboteur who conducted a number of mining cases, and was wounded due to inaccurate mining.

Everyone who visited Zhemchuhov in the hospital were later called for interrogation, some were beaten, Elena says.

"He has always been pro-Ukrainian and never supported the Donbas invaders," Zhemchuhova says.

According to her, numerous attempts to swap her husband for pro-Russian separatists failed.

"LPR" militants have posted a video online showing Volodymyr Zhemchuhov in the hospital, as he is speaking about the events that led to his injury and admits sabotage activities on the occupied territory. Unfortunately, there is no information about how Zhemchuhov gave these testimonies and whether they are true, given that Donbas separatists widely use tortures with their captives.

On Dec. 25, 2015 he was convicted of a criminal offense, which made him non-eligible for swap under the Minsk agreements.

"During all this time he was in hospital, he's gone completely blind. Part of his bowel was cut, his nose is broken - he breathes through ear. Both his arms were amputated," Elena Zhemchuhova said of her husband.

On May 30, Zemchuhov was transferred from the hospital to pre-trial prison of Luhansk.

His wife pleads to swap him "before he dies," Novaia Gazeta reported.
