Turmoil in Poltava: three persons injured in clash between activists and developer’s security guards, - National Police. PHOTOS
Up to 50 activists gathered near the archway at 37 Sobornosti Str. around 7 p.m. The number of protesters later increased to 300. The rally started peacefully. The people were carrying placards showing their discontent by the actions of a local developer. Then the fight suddenly started between the private security company members and the protesters.
As reported by Censor.NET citing the local police press office, three people were injured in the clash."One person was stabbed, another one received head injury (presumably inflicted by a wooden stick). A patrol police officer was injured as well. He probably had his nose broken after being punched to the face. All the injured were taken by the ambulances to the local hospitals. The severity of the bodily harm caused to them is being determined by the doctors.
"The police intervened in order to prevent escalation of the conflict. They took a stand between the conflicting parties and continued maintaining order on site. The law enforces held talks with the parties to the conflict to make them stop violence posing threat to life and health of the local residents. The protest has been held peacefully so far.
"The police detained a total of eight people who took active part in the fighting from both sides. These persons are being identified while the measures are being taken to establish the circumstances of the offense they have committed. The crime scene team is working on site," the police reported.
