On Aug. 8, Kyiv residents, comrades, and friends were saying their last goodbyes to Donbas Battalion fighter Valentyn Hontar. The veteran of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) was actively involved in volunteering. He was killed in a grenade explosion on Aug. 4 in Kyiv.
Censor.NET correspondent reports from Maidan Nezalezhnosti, where the ceremony took place.Valentyn Hontar, call sign Prapor, was a well-known veteran of Donbas war, member of Donbas Battalion (a group of former marines and Spetsnaz fighters), and a husband of Vitalina Maslova. The couple was jointly involved in developing a center for psychological rehabilitation of veterans in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
On Aug. 8, at 9 p.m., the hero was commemorated in Kyiv at Maidan Nezalezhnosti. Another service will take place in Ivano-Frankivsk on Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. The funeral will be held on Aug. 10 in Kryvorivnia village, the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Media reported that the body of Valentyn Hontar was found on Aug. 4 in Katerynivka village, Kyiv larger area. Grenade shrapnel was found next to him. The death of the fighter is being investigated as a homicide.
