Six Berkut officers were directly involved in the mass shootings of Maidan activists.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SBI press service.
The indictment has now been sent to court.
"The investigation has established that on 20 February 2014, on Instytutska Street in Kyiv, these and other police officers of the Berkut special company carried out an order from their superiors and used service smooth-bore and automatic rifled firearms equipped with ammunition against the protesters. As a result of their actions, 48 protesters were killed and another 90 sustained gunshot wounds," the statement said.
After the crime, the weapons were damaged and hidden, but some of them were found and identified.
6 former policemen are accused of obstructing peaceful protests, abuse of power that led to grave consequences, committing a terrorist act, causing grievous bodily harm, premeditated murders and completed attempts to premeditate the murder of two or more protesters, as well as stealing service firearms (Art. 3, Art. 365, Art. 340, Art. 258, Art. 115, Art. 262, para. 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They are currently hiding in Russia and have become Russian citizens.
"As for the other 14 policemen of this unit, also involved in the shootings, a special pre-trial investigation is at the final stage," the SBI said.
