Komorowski: Poland to Modernize Ukrainian Army

The creation of a joint Lithuanian–Polish–Ukrainian Brigade (LITPOLUKRBRIG) is a crucial part of NATO agreements to modernize the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Referring to Interfax-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports that this was announced by President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski.

"This agreement is a part of the plan, which was discussed at the NATO summit in Newport, where it was decided to support Ukraine", Komorowski said in Warsaw on Friday.

According to the President, the brigade will be a unit of peacekeeping forces, a way of sharing skills and knowledge not only between these three countries, but will also contribute to the interaction of the Ukrainian Army with other armies throughout the world.

Komorowski added that Poland agrees to modernize the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"I believe that the combination of all these steps will help the Ukrainian Army to cooperate efficiently with the armies of the world, as well as to modernize the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is required under the current threat of the aggressive neighbor," Komorowski said.

On September 19, Ukrainian Defense Minister Valerii Heletei signed the LITPOLUKRBRIG agreement on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

545 Ukrainian, 3000-3800 Polish and 150-350 Lithuanian soldiers will join LITPOLUKRBRIG. The brigade headquarters will be located in Lublin (Poland), while the participating units will remain in their permanent posts.
