USA at UN refuted statements of Russian Federation regarding "problem of proliferation of weapons in Ukraine"

During the meeting of the UN Security Council, the United States stopped the attempts of the Russian delegation to spread disinformation about alleged violations of international treaties by countries that provide Ukraine with weapons in the face of Russian aggression.

The corresponding statement was made by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Ambassador Robert Wood, reports Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.

"We should not pretend that the conflict in Ukraine is a problem of the proliferation of weapons, the export of systems (weapons. - Ed.). Ukraine has been invaded, and it has the full right to defend itself. This is reflected in the UN Charter, and the international community has the full right to continue its long-term defense support to Ukraine," the US representative emphasized.

He added that the government of Ukraine undertook to properly store and account for the received defense equipment and created a commission to strengthen monitoring of the transferred weapons. According to him, Russia never responded to the facts that refuted its false narratives.

"In an attempt to discredit Ukraine and weaken international support for its defense efforts, the Russian Federation continues to spread disinformation," the US representative emphasized.

He recalled that the Russian delegation, which presides over the UN Security Council this month, began its presidency with an attempt to justify the deportation of Ukrainian children. In particular, last week the Russian Federation brought Maria Lvova-Belova, for whose arrest the International Criminal Court issued an international warrant, to the meeting according to the Arria formula.

"So today's meeting is a thinly veiled attempt by the Russian Federation to portray itself as a responsible participant in the arms control process, an attempt to obscure the reality that it launched an unjustified armed invasion of a neighboring country," the US representative emphasized.
