Reznikov on negotiations with Russian Federation at beginning of invasion: We doubted that we would return home

During trips to Minsk for negotiations with the Russian Federation at the beginning of the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian delegation was not sure that it would return home.

This was stated by a member of the delegation, Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov, in an interview with the Spanish publication Larazon, Censor.NET informs.

During the interview, the Ukrainian minister was asked what was the most difficult day since the beginning of the war?

According to Reznikov, the most difficult decision was to become part of the Ukrainian delegation that went to Belarus.

He noted that the purpose of the negotiations was to create humanitarian corridors, thanks to which tens of thousands of lives could be saved.

"It was very difficult to say yes to the president when he asked me because I felt a deep hatred (for the Russians. - Ed.). And as a negotiator, I know that this is an emotion that does no good. It was terrible to shake hands with the enemy. There were four meetings, three in Belarus and one in Turkey. I will tell you that in the first three, we did not feel safe at all and even doubted that we would return home," said Reznikov.

"Since I made the decision, I knew I had to maintain a diplomatic stance because I was there to convey our position to them, defend it and persuade them to accept it. In the end, we did it, and we managed to save tens of thousands of lives," he added.
