Iraq wants to be part of the solution to end the war in Ukraine.

This was stated by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Baghdad, Censor.NET reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

"It is difficult for us to support the war. That is why, in principle, we always try to be part of the solution," he said.

The head of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry added that "Baghdad is ready to become a mediator if it is asked for it."

For his part, Kuleba expressed gratitude for Iraq's support of Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

"Iraq has supported Ukraine in the international arena since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. We especially appreciate Iraq's positive votes in the United Nations General Assembly. This is a clear signal that principles are important to Iraq," he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomed Hussein's call for peace, but stressed that any ceasefire must include the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and the withdrawal of Russian troops.

The two ministers also discussed the impact of the war on world oil prices and the need to develop relations between Kyiv and Baghdad in various areas, including trade and education.

"I think that together we will be able to achieve a lot by working out all aspects of our bilateral relations and planning joint projects," Kuleba concluded.
