The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published operational information regarding the Russian invasion as of 6:00 on April 17, 2023.

In the evening summary, it is noted: "During the day, the enemy carried out 34 airstrikes, launched 31 attacks from rocket salvo systems. There are wounded among the civilian population.
The Russian aggressor continues to use terror tactics, the probability of launching missile and air strikes throughout the territory of Ukraine remains high.
The enemy suffers considerable losses and concentrates its main efforts on conducting offensive actions in the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Mariinka directions. During the day, our defenders repelled more than 50 enemy attacks on the specified areas of the front. Bakhmut and Mariinka remain at the epicenter of hostilities.
No signs of the formation of offensive groups of the enemy were detected in the Volyn, Polissia, Siversk and Slobozhansk directions. A comprehensive check of the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus is underway.
During the day, the enemy shelled the settlements of Sosnivka, Popivka, and Iskryskivshchyna in the Sumy Region, as well as the settlements of Okip, Bayrak, Vovchansk, Okhrimivka, and Nesterne in the Kharkiv Region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives near the village of Synkivka. Topoli, Krasne Pershe, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna and Zapadne of the Kharkiv region came under enemy fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions near the settlement of Spirne, without success. Stelmakhivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka of the Luhansk region and Ivanivka and Spirne of the Donetsk region were hit by artillery fire.

The battles for the city of Bakhmut do not stop in the direction of Bakhmut. In the area of the settlements of Ivanovske and Predtechine, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions. Vasiukivka, Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Bakhmut, Ivanovske, Chasiv Yar, Novodmytrivka and Toretsk of the Donetsk region were affected by enemy shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the Novokalynove, Severne and Pervomaiske regions of the Donetsk region, without success. Keramik, Novokalynove, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Tonenka, Netaylove, Pervomaiske and Karlivka were shelled.
In the Mariinka direction, our defenders repelled numerous enemy attacks in the area of Mariinka settlement of Donetsk region. At the same time, the settlements of Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk region were subjected to enemy shelling.
The enemy has not carried out offensive operations in the direction of Shakhtarsk today. He shelled the settlements of Shakhtarske, Novoukrainka, Velyka Novosilka, Neskuchne, Zolota Nyva, Prechistivka, and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.
The enemy continues to conduct defensive operations in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions. During the day, he shelled populated areas. Among them are Vremivka, Novopil of the Donetsk region; Malynivka, Chervone, Huliaipole, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Orihiv of the Zaporizhzhia region; Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region; Zolota Balka, Beryslav, Lviv, Ivanivka, Mykilske, Antonivka of the Kherson region and the city of Kherson.
About 200 recently mobilized Russian servicemen from the reserve of the Russian occupation forces arrived in Zaytsevo, Donetsk region, to replenish their own losses in manpower. It was established that, due to the lack of clear instructions regarding their further application, the short period of individual and collective training, and the unsatisfactory level of staffing with tangible property, these servicemen have a low level of moral and psychological state. Therefore, the new occupiers are looking for an excuse to avoid participating in hostilities.
Aviation of the Defense Forces made 12 strikes on areas where the occupiers were concentrated during the day. Also, an enemy reconnaissance UAV of the "Merlin" type was shot down.
During the day, units of missile troops and artillery struck 2 areas of concentration of enemy manpower, as well as 1 enemy radio-electronic warfare station.
