At a meeting on Monday, the Government of Slovakia approved the introduction of a ban on the import of grain and some agricultural products from Ukraine from April 19, but did not limit their transit through the country.

This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture of Slovakia, Samuel Vlchan, Censor.NET informs with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

"With today's resolution, the government does not introduce a ban on transit through "solidarity routes" to ports, so that products from Ukraine intended for third markets outside the EU can continue to be exported," Vlchan said.

The ban on imports from Ukraine applies to cereals, sugar, dry fodder, grain, hops, flax, hemp, fruits and vegetables, products of fruit and vegetable processing, as well as wine, ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin, honey and beekeeping products.

According to the Slovak minister, this step is aimed at protecting the Slovak agro-food sector and especially the health of consumers. "Poland resorted to very strict bans, and we had to react to protect the Slovak market for agricultural and food products, where we are self-sufficient," he added.
