Trump may impose new sanctions on Russia if Putin does not reach deal to end war in Ukraine

Trump hopes Putin will sign agreement to end war

President Donald Trump has said he wants to see Russian President Vladimir Putin "make a deal" to end the war in Ukraine, noting that he will impose additional sanctions on Russian oil if necessary.

According to Censor.NET, CNN writes about it.

"I want to see him (Putin - ed.) make a deal, so that we stop Russian soldiers and Ukrainian soldiers and other people from being killed. I want to make sure that he follows through, and I think he will. I don’t want to go secondary tariffs on his oil. But I think, you know, it’s something I would do if I thought he wasn’t doing the job. I did it with Venezuela," Trump said.

In the same context, Trump expressed his belief that the Russian leader would "hold up his end of the bargain".

At the same time, Trump noted that the Ukrainian side must also do its part. In this regard, he noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is "trying to renegotiate the rare earths agreement", avoiding mentioning that the US had proposed a completely different version of the agreement at the last minute.

Trump reiterated that the United States has allocated $350 billion to Ukraine, while Europe has allocated only $100 billion, which it is allegedly trying to recover. According to him, a "mineral" deal with Ukraine will allow America to compensate for these costs.

In addition, Trump spoke about the impossibility of Ukraine becoming a NATO member, adding that "that’s probably the reason the war started, actually".

As a reminder, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski believes that US President Donald Trump is gradually realising what kind of "partner" he is dealing with when he negotiates with Putin.
