Russia attacked Chortkiv in the Ternopil region twice; damage reported

On the night of October 15–16, Russian forces attacked the Ternopil region. The city of Chortkiv came under Russian attack twice.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Taras Pastukh, head of the RMA.

The attack damaged the premises of a manufacturing plant. A fire covering an area of 15 square meters broke out at the site of the strike.

State Emergency Service personnel were on the scene. The fire has now been extinguished.

No information about the victims has been received.

Initial consequences

Subsequently, Chortkiv Mayor Volodymyr Shmatko reported that, as a result of a nighttime drone attack by the Russian Federation on the Chortkiv community, a business—which is the community’s largest taxpayer and employer—had been almost completely destroyed.

"Yesterday, one drone, and last night, two more drones completely destroyed a company in our community—the main taxpayer and the main employer. It was a foreign company that had been operating in our community for over ten years. As of now, the company has been almost completely destroyed. Thank God everyone is alive. No one was injured today because it happened at night, and everyone had been evacuated. The second strike took place right before our eyes. But the rescue workers did their job," the statement reads.

Shmatko thanked all the emergency services that worked yesterday and today to address the damage caused by Russian drone strikes on the community’s infrastructure.

"I thank the staff of this enterprise, who both yesterday and today are trying to hold on and clear the rubble. But the enterprise has been destroyed. For us, this is a tragedy—a tragedy for our people who worked there, and a tragedy for our budget. But the main thing is that no one was injured today. Those wounded yesterday are recovering," Shmatko said.
