Blackout in Dnipro: electric transport has come to a standstill, life-support systems are running on generators

Another blackout has occurred in Dnipro due to damage to the power grid caused by Russian attacks. Despite the power engineers’ efforts throughout the night, the system is unable to cope with the load. The city’s key life-support facilities are switching to backup power.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, and the mayor of Dnipro, Borys Filatov.
According to Hanzha, power engineers worked through the night and managed to restore electricity to some consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk region who had been left without power due to Russian attacks. However, the situation in Dnipro subsequently deteriorated again.
"Dnipro is without power again. The power grid, damaged by enemy strikes, cannot cope with the load," said the head of the Regional Military Administration.
Repair work is ongoing. The maximum number of teams has been deployed for this work.
Public transport in the city is not running
Mayor Borys Filatov confirmed that Dnipro is once again without electricity. According to him, trams, trolleybuses and the metro are not running due to the power cut. Only buses are operating in the city.
Filatov urged residents to stay at home where possible and to take the situation into account when planning their journeys.
Water supply and other systems are switching to generators
According to the Regional Military Administration, the water supply and drainage systems are being powered by generators. The city’s main life-support systems are also switching to backup power.
The mayor has separately appealed to residents to keep a supply of water at home sufficient for at least one or two days.
Power and utility workers are continuing restoration work. Residents who have already had their power restored are asked to switch on high-power electrical appliances one at a time to reduce the load on the grid.
What led up to this?
- Earlier, DTEK reported that equipment on the main power networks in Dnipro had been damaged as a result of yet another Russian attack. This caused power cuts.
