Vuhlehirsk battle anniversary Jan. 29 is the anniversary of Vuhlehirsk battles. Vuhlehirsk is a key town, control of which enabled holding the western face of the Debaltseve bridgehead from Horlivka. In the morning of Jan. 29, 2015 after preparation fire, an armored unit of Russian mercenaries from the 3rd motorized rifle brigade and ‘Oplot’ brigade attacked the positions of the 13th armored infantry battalion, former area defense battalion of the Chernihiv region. It was a tank battle taking place during the ‘truce’… Over his short life, Serhii managed to do many things, and his life is worth to be remembered, as well as worth being put into books and movies. A year ago – Donbas airport defenders repulsed Russian mercenaries’ attack on Sept. 28, 2014. 11 Ukrainian heroes were killed in battle While repulsing an attack by Russian mercenaries against the Donetsk airport, the following Ukrainian soldiers died heroes’ death: company commander of the 93rd brigade Serhii Kolodii, platoon commander of the 79th brigade, Lieutenant Oleksii Tyshchyk, eight of his paratroopers, and a tankman from the 17th tank brigade. Feb. 8, 2015. ‘LPR’ tank company defeated near Novohryhorivka, as told by Zenit platoon strongpoint commander Yurii Brekharia Butt to butt offensive between ‘Zenit’ and ‘Zozo’ strongpoints; four tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, infantry. For masking purposes, one of the tanks had a Ukrainian flag on it. This can only be seen in some Russian movies by Bondarchuk. Sanzharivka combat at 307.5 high point as described by participant Strongpoint at 307.5 has been created by tankmen from the 17th tank brigade. The position was named ‘Valera’ after commander of the tank company which was the first to arrive to the high point. They were later joined by detachments of anti-tank guided missiles and tripod-mounted man-portable anti-tank guns from the fire support company of our battalion.
