Russians Maria Gaidar and Vladimir Fedorin become Ukrainian citizens
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on granting citizenship to Russian public activist, the Odesa regional state administration Deputy Head Maria Gaidar and Russian journalist, former Forbes Ukraine Chief Editor Vladimir Fedorin and handed over passports of citizens of Ukraine to them.
This is reported by Censor.NET citing the presidential press service.
During the ceremony Poroshenko noted that a large number of Russians seeing the real cause of events in Ukraine make their choice of "either being devoted to the free world, democracy and doing everything to ensure the triumph of freedom and democracy, or keeping silent. And in this tacit consent serious crimes are committed."
As reported earlier, the Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction coordinator Yurii Lutsenko said an appointment of Maria Gaidar the Odesa Deputy Governor was another step in Maidan's aspiration to cease confrontation among Ukrainian and Russian speaking population.
