Українці на "Азовсталі": хто вони? (для іноземних журналістів)

Hello, I'm Alina Stara, host of the UA STRUGGLE podcast. The topic of this episode is: who are the Ukrainians who still remain at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol?

During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian troops literally destroyed the city of Mariupol. Ukrainian forces, along with civilians, were able to settle on the territory of the Azovstal plant - the bunkers located there are able to withstand Russian bombing.

For two and a half months, the Ukrainians bravely held their ground against the outnumbered forces of the enemy. The Russians are being ruthless - Putin has ordered them to physically destroy the entire Ukrainian population of Mariupol.

The situation at the Azovstal is critical today. Thanks to the efforts of the United Nations, almost all civilians were evacuated from the plant. However, the Ukrainian military garrison remained at the Azovstal, in particular many soldiers of the AZOV regiment. Many are wounded and killed, but they refuse to surrender to Putin because they understand that only torture and death await them in captivity.

However, there is a way out. There have been examples in world history of the complete evacuation of a military garrison from the occupied territories to a third country. Just as in World War II at Dunkirk, the Ukrainian garrison at the Azovstal has a chance for salvation.

Ukrainians call on the UN to mediate in negotiations with Putin. Turkey can accept defenders of Ukraine. Take them from the Azovstal and stop the bloodshed in Mariupol. Genocide would be stopped, but for that the UN must act.

Ukrainians at the Azovstal love their land. All these soldiers are someone's children, parents, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives. They have the right to live.

Today, besides the slogan "Save Mariupol", it is important to say "Save the Defenders of Mariupol". It is the duty of the world community to save Ukrainians in this city!

В ході повномасштабного вторгнення в Україну російські війська фактично зруйнували місто Маріуполь. Українські сили разом з цивільними людьми змогли закріпитись на території заводу Азовсталь - бункери, що там знаходяться, здатні витримати російські бомбардування.

Два з половиною місяці українці мужньо тримали оборону від переважаючих сил противника. Росіяни поводяться безжально - Путін наказав їм фізично знищити все українське населення Маріуполя.

Ситуація на Азовсталі сьогодні критична. Завдяки зусиллям ООН цивільних людей практично в повному обсязі вдалось евакуювати з території заводу. Проте на Азовсталі залишився український військовий гарнізон, зокрема багато бійців полку АЗОВ. Серед них багато поранених та вбитих, проте вони відмовляються здаватись Путіну - бо розуміють, що в полоні їх чекають лише тортури та смерть.

Проте вихід є. У світовій історії бували приклади повної евакуації військового гарнізону з окупованих територій у третю країну. Так само як і під час Другої світової війни у Дюнкерку, український гарнізон на Азовсталі має шанс на порятунок.

Українці закликають ООН виступити посередником у перемовинах з Путіним. Туреччина може прийняти захисників України. Забрати їх з Азовсталі та припинити кровопролиття у Маріуполя. Геноцид буде зупинено - проте для цього ООН повинно діяти.

На Азовсталі знаходяться українці, які люблять свою землю. Всі ці військові - чиїсь діти, батьки, брати та сестри, чоловіки та дружини. Вони мають право для життя.

Сьогодні, окрім лозунгу "Save Mariupol", актуально казати "Save the Defenders of Mariupol". Врятувати українців у цьому місті - це обовʼязок світової спільноти!
