Latvia has handed over 66 cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine free of charge, the Latvian State Bail Agency reports.

As informs Censor.NЕТ, this is stated by publication Delfi.

In the last day alone, according to the Latvian police, 17 drunk drivers were detained.

Four administrative cases and 13 criminal proceedings were initiated for drunk driving. In five cases, the vehicles of the caught drivers will be confiscated, and the cost of the vehicles will be recovered from eight drivers.

This is not the first such decision by the Latvian government. In early March, it also decided to donate eight cars to Ukraine. In April, the confiscated cars were sent to the village of Pobuzke in Kirovohrad region and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

According to the Latvian law "On Supporting Civilians in Ukraine," vehicles owned by Latvia can be donated to Ukraine to prevent the consequences of an emergency situation related to military operations in Ukraine and to support Ukrainian society.

This is one of the ways in which Latvia is helping Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
