Poroshenko Explained Ilovaisk Tragedy Causes

Delayed reinforcements became the reason of the Ilovaisk encirclement.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during an interview with Ukrainian TV channels that the tragedy that happened in Ilovaisk was caused by the 3-day delay in the reinforcements arrival as well as fleeing of some subunits, Censor.NET reports citing LIGA.Novosti. In Ilovaiks a number of the Ukrainian army detachments were surrounded and suffered heavy losses during a breakthrough.

The President also noted that the 51th Mechanized Brigade will be disbanded after a significant number of its soldiers of were captured.

"After to the events in Volnovakha, Sverdlovsk and Krasnopartyzansk, where soldiers from the 51st Brigade have surrendered, the decision has been made to disband the detachment," he said.

Poroshenko said that the brigade will be sent to the place of permanent deployment. A detachment with a changed staff and commandment will be formed instead and will be called the 14th Brigade.
