Social policy minister: soldiers to receive larger salaries, pensions in 2018

Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy Andrii Reva says the military personnel will receive increased salaries and pensions since Jan. 1, 2018.

Reva said at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday commenting on the resolution postponing to January 2019 the entry into force of the Decree No. 704 of Aug. 30, 2017 stipulating increase in servicemen’s salaries and pensions in January 2018, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"I want to draw your attention to the fact that the servicemen will receive larger salaries and pensions from Jan. 1 as stipulated by the state budget. This draft resolution in no way cuts the salaries," the minister said.

First Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv said that a lot had been done for servicemen’s social security while the draft law on the social protection of the military must ensure high salaries in the Armed Forces, staffing with proficient personnel, and motivate high results, especially in real war conditions.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman added that the Cabinet submitted the bill on military pensions to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and expressed the hope that it would be agreed upon in January.
