PGO says dropping inquiry into MP Dovhyi unacceptable, initiates new proceedings

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko is outraged that Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) discontinued the investigation into MP Oles Dovhyi.
Lutsenko wrote on the social media, Censor.NET reports.
"I deem unacceptable SAP’s decision to drop the inquiry into People's Deputy Oles Dovhyi. The decision to discontinue the probe under item 3 of part 1 of article 284 of the Criminal Procedure Code “due to impossibility to collect enough evidence to prove a person's guilt in court and exhausted possibility to obtain them" makes my eyebrows raise and blood boil. First, there is evidence in the case. The whole country heard it and the parliament stripped the MP of immunity based on it. Second, if SAP wanted to collect more evidence, it had five months to do it. Therefore 1,438 hectares of land were misappropriated but SAP cannot prove who exactly did it. Consequently, the Kyiv prosecutor's office today registered inquiry into large-scale embezzlement (article 191 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code) during alienation of more than a thousand hectares of the land located on the Kyiv’s Zhukov Island through the so-called cooperatives," the prosecutor general said.
Lutsenko specified that the limitation on conviction under this article of the Criminal Code is 15 years.
