Presidential debates to be broadcasted on UA:PBC, - CEC chairman

The Central Election Commission sees no grounds for amending its resolution that sets the studio of the Public Television as the venue for debates between the presidential candidates on April 19.

Censor.NET reports citing Hromadske.

The chairman of the CEC, Tatyana Slipachuk, said this at a briefing on April 9.

"Today, the CEC sees no reason to change its rules, which, as I initially stressed, clearly conforms to international standards for holding debates of this order," she said.

Among the standards are: holding a debate by an unbiased company (in the case of Ukraine - The National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC)), the availability of a signal to other broadcasting companies, a clear regulation and the absence of campaign symbols.

Slipachuk also noted that none of the candidate headquarters requested a change in the order.

The head of the UA:PBC Zurab Alasania indicated that the broadcaster understands the requirements and is ready to conduct them in this format. Therefore, the UA:PBC is waiting for candidates for official debates on April 19 at 20 o'clock.

As earlier reported, according to the official voting results, Volodymyr Zelenskyi got 30.24% of the vote, Petro Poroshenko – 15.95%. On April 3, Zelenskyi invited Poroshenko to a debate before the second round of presidential elections. Zelenskyi stressed that the debate should take place at the Olimpiiskyi stadium in Kyiv, in the presence of all interested journalists and television channels.

Poroshenko, in his video address, reminded that according to the rules of the debate stipulated in the law on presidential elections, it can be held on public television and broadcast on all television channels. "But if it's the stadium, let it be the stadium. I'm waiting for you, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych," Poroshenko said.
