Earthquake death toll in Turkey and Syria rises to 2.7 thousand

Number of fatal victims after earthquake with epicenter in southeastern Turkey increased to 2730 people, almost 14.5 thousand injured.

"As of now, the number of our citizens killed is 1,762, the number of wounded is 12,688, and the number of destroyed buildings is 5,606," said Orhan Tatar, head of the AFAD Earthquake and Risk Reduction Department.
A total of 6,445 people were rescued from the rubble.
The death toll from the earthquake in Syria has risen to 968. According to the Ministry of Health, at least 538 people were killed and 1353 injured in government-controlled areas, including the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia and Tartus. In rebel-held areas in the northwest, at least 430 people were killed and more than 1,050 injured.
As reported earlier, two earthquakes hit southeastern Turkey today: a 7.7-magnitude earthquake occurred at 04:17 a.m., and another 7.6-magnitude earthquake occurred at 13:24 a.m. on the Richter scale.
