US President Joe Biden arrived in Ukraine "under cover of darkness". The trip itself was kept a secret for 24 hours.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to CNN.

"President Biden's trip to Kyiv on Monday was shrouded in mystery, which is a reflection of acute concern about the safety of visiting a zone of active hostilities," the publication writes.

Air Force One reportedly took off from Joint Base Andrews "under the cover of darkness" at 4:15 a.m. ET on Sunday. Reporters on board the plane were not allowed to take their devices with them.

According to CNN, Biden's public schedule did not include this trip to Kyiv. In addition, White House officials repeatedly stated last week that a visit to Ukraine is not planned.

"On Saturday evening, before leaving, Biden went to dinner with his wife in Washington. He was not seen in public again until he arrived in Kyiv on Monday morning," the article adds.

Biden is traveling with a relatively small entourage, including national security adviser Jake Sullivan, deputy chief of staff Jen O'Malley Dillon and personal assistant Annie Tomazzini.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky first invited Biden to visit Kyiv a year ago, when Russian troops were gathering at the border. Last week, Zelensky said that his invitation to visit Ukraine remains open.

Biden visited Ukraine six times as US Vice President. His last visit to Kyiv was in January 2017, a few days before his resignation. Until Monday, the visit remained the last high-profile visit since neither Vice President Pence nor President Trump had ever visited Ukraine.
