US to urge partners to increase pressure on Russia and increase support for Ukraine

On Monday, US Deputy Treasury Secretary Jay Shambaugh will call on allies to increase economic pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine and to step up support for Kyiv.

This is reported by Censor.NЕТ with reference to Reuters.

Chambo will emphasize the inextricable link between inflationary pressures and a full-scale war in Ukraine and its economic consequences.

"The United States is redoubling its efforts to rally our global coalition of allies at the Treasury Department's spring biannual meetings as part of the United States' unwavering commitment to Ukraine," Reuters quotes Shambaugh as saying.

This means "strengthening economic support for the government and people of Ukraine and... continuing to block Russia's revenues and arms flows to Russia, both of which Putin needs to continue his criminal war."

Shambaugh noted that over the past year, the United States has provided about $50 billion in assistance to Ukraine, including more than $23 billion in budget support. "And we will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes."

"In the future, Ukraine will need support from a wide range of donors to restore and build the country. As the international community, we can unite around addressing the most urgent and concrete needs - in high-impact areas that can help Ukraine restart its economy and bring displaced Ukrainians home as soon as conditions allow," he said.
