Russian President Vladimir Putin has a working meeting with Li Shangfu, a member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and Minister of Defense.

According to Putin, "the recent visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping was quite productive for Russia. This, according to the Russian president, "had a positive impact on relations between Russia and China, and they began intensive development in all areas, including the military."
"There is a very good development of relations between our countries in all areas, in the economy, social, cultural and educational spheres and through the military departments," Putin said.
According to the Russian leader, Russia and China are now "regularly exchanging useful information through the military departments. The two countries also conduct joint exercises... military cooperation between Russia and China is one of the most important areas that strengthens the strategic relations between the two countries."
The Chinese Defense Minister, for his part, said that cooperation between China and Russia "is developing very well and contributes to regional security." He also emphasized that Russia was the first country he visited after he was appointed to the post of Chinese Defense Minister.
