US overestimated aid to Ukraine by at least 3 billion - Reuters

The value of the aid Ukraine has received from the United States is at least three billion less than previously thought. This means that the discussion of a new financing program can be postponed.

This was stated to Reuters by two sources in the Senate and the defense sector of the US government, reports Censor.NЕТ.

The accounting error, according to the news agency, was caused by the fact that the cost of the weapons transferred to Ukraine from warehouses was "higher than reasonable."

The sources explained that the Pentagon used the cost of equipment to replace the weapons transferred to Ukraine to evaluate the weapons. But the weapons that were sent to Ukraine are worth less due to depreciation.

An unnamed Pentagon official told Reuters that the amount of "overestimated" aid to Ukraine could increase as his department examines the situation more closely.

According to the agency, the reassessment of military aid to Ukraine means that the United States has more additional funds than previously thought, and thus there may not be a need to negotiate another financial aid package between the White House and Congress.

Earlier, it was reported that only 6 billion of the 48 billion that the United States allocated to Ukraine in December last year were left, and they may run out by mid-summer. This money is used to pay for military aid packages for Ukraine.
