German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not rule out resuming his contacts with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin "in due course" when the conditions for such a conversation are right.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to LIGA.net.

Scholz did not rule out that it would be possible to resume contacts with Putin even after the current virtual cessation of relations due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"My last phone call (to Putin - Ed.) was some time ago, but I plan to talk to Putin again in due course," Scholz said.

In response to a question about the prospects for peace talks, Scholz said that "Putin must understand that the war cannot be ended by 'some kind of frozen peace' and 'turning the current front line into a new 'border' between Russia and Ukraine'."

According to him, "we should be talking about a just peace, a prerequisite for which is the withdrawal of Russian troops".

Scholz's last telephone conversation with Putin took place on 2 December 2022, in which the German Chancellor condemned Russian airstrikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and stressed Germany's determination to support Ukraine in ensuring its defense against Russian aggression.
