U.S. President Joe Biden thanked Italy for its support of Ukraine and emphasized that Russia is committing atrocities in the war.

This is stated by Censor.NEТ with reference to Voice of America.

"It's not just a war, Russia is committing atrocities, they're focusing on that," Biden said at a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Biden emphasized that Italy's support for Ukraine is of great importance: "Italy and the United States strongly support Ukraine, and I thank you for your very strong support in defending against Russia's atrocities, and that's exactly what they are... I thank the Italian people, I want to thank them for their support of Ukraine. It is of great importance."

In turn, Meloni expressed her belief that the Ukrainian resistance does not bring the threat of world war closer, but distances it, and noted Italy's consistent policy of supporting Ukraine.

"With the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, we all decided together to defend international law," Maloney said during a meeting with Biden at the White House. - "And I am proud that Italy has played a role in this from the very beginning. We did so simply because supporting Ukraine means protecting the peaceful coexistence of people and states around the world. Contrary to some statements, the Ukrainian resistance is moving the world war further away. It is not bringing it closer, as some say. Those who believe in peace should be the first supporters of the Ukrainian cause."

Italy, which will preside over the Group of Seven in 2024 and host a conference on Ukraine's reconstruction in 2025, will play a special role in coordinating international efforts to help Ukraine, according to a joint statement issued by the US and Italian leaders following the meeting.

In the statement, Biden and Maloney also pointed out the importance of ensuring food exports from Ukraine through the Black Sea and condemned Russia's withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
