Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to increase the number of personnel in the Russian Armed Forces by 170,000.

According to the decree, the authorized strength of the Russian Armed Forces will be 2209130 units, including 1320000 military personnel.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation explained the increase in the number of the Armed Forces by the growing threats due to NATO expansion and the "military operations" against Ukraine. At the same time, it is emphasized that there are no plans to mobilize or significantly increase the number of citizens called up for military service
