The opposition organized the protests. The rallies took place in the cities of Košice, Pryasiv, Poprad, Banska Bystrica, Žilina, Nitra, Trnava, Trenchyn, Spiska Nova Ves, Liptovský Mikuláš and Povazhska Bystrica.
People are protesting the Fico government's plans to dissolve the special prosecutor's office that oversees high-profile corruption cases, reduce penalties for corruption, and weaken protections for whistleblowers.
According to the leader of the leading opposition party "Progressive Slovakia" Michal Šimečka, the legislative changes planned by the government will lead to an amnesty for the mafia and corrupt people.
