Almost five million barrels of Russian Sokol oil stuck on way to India - Bloomberg

Almost five million barrels of Russian Sokol crude oil are stuck on their way to Indian refineries. This may be partly due to US sanctions against oil tankers that violated the price ceiling.

This is reported by Bloomberg, Censor.NET informs.

It is noted that the oil tankers were supposed to arrive in India over the past four weeks, but they have not yet arrived at their destinations.

It is unclear what is delaying these vessels, but part of the reason may be US sanctions against tankers carrying Russian oil. They violate the price ceiling set by the G7 countries.

In mid-October, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the first two vessels involved in the Russian oil trade. This was followed by restrictive measures against three more tankers in mid-November and three more in early December.

According to the publication, 6 of the 8 sanctioned vessels belong to the Russian state-owned tanker company Sovcomflot.

One of the vessels on the US Treasury's list is the NS Century, which was transporting Sokol crude oil to the Indian port of Vadinar. Two days after it changed its name on 16 November, the tanker stopped south of Sri Lanka, where it has remained ever since.

Over the past week, it has been joined by two other Sovcomflot tankers. Both are also heading to Vadinar with Sokol oil.
