The Russian industry has not been able to cope with the shortage of shells. It will not be possible to overcome it even through purchases from Iran and the DPRK.

Deputy Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Major General Vadym Skibitskyi said this in a podcast for Ukrainska Pravda, Censor.NET reports with reference to the DIU press service.

According to him, the Russian defense industry is capable of producing 2 million rounds of ammunition per year. We are talking about 122-mm and 152-mm shells.

The Russian industry was unable to fully meet the needs of the army in 2023. The shortage amounted to about 500 thousand shells. So the Russians started importing shells from Belarus, then from Iran, and now they have received large batches from North Korea.

In 2024, Russia plans to increase ammunition production, but faces a number of problems related to the lack of components, qualified personnel and production facilities.

"We estimate that Russia will have a shortage of 500,000 rounds of ammunition and will try to find it somewhere," emphasized Skibitskyi.
