Chinese Premier Li Qiang refuses to meet with Zelenskyy in Davos – Politico

According to Politico, Chinese representatives refused to meet with the Ukrainian delegation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Radio Liberty.

The publication claims that this is an unpleasant surprise for Kyiv. Earlier, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, stated the importance of China joining the discussions on the Peace Formula proposed by Kyiv and did not rule out the possibility of a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the chairman of the State Council (Prime Minister) of China, Li Qiang.

But China did not participate in the meeting of national security advisers in Davos, and Li Qiang did not meet with Zelenskyy. According to Politico, this was another sign that Beijing supports Moscow and does not intend to put pressure on Russia to end the war.

The publication's sources in the US administration claim that China deliberately refused the meeting, rejecting Ukraine's request, and that it was not a simple "scheduling mismatch." A source in the Ukrainian delegation said that the Ukrainian side did not request the meeting. Official Beijing and Kyiv did not comment on this.

In his speech at the forum, Li Qiang spoke mainly about the economy, characterizing China as a "safe haven" in a difficult international situation.

Politico also notes that, despite China's position, Zelenskyy was the focus of attention in Davos for the press and numerous forum participants.
