NATO’s Steadfast Defender-24 training begins

NATO’s largest exercise in decades began on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
This is reported by the Alliance's media center, Censor.NET reports.
The exercises began with the departure of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) from the port of Norfolk, Virginia, USA. After a series of operations, the ship will sail across the Atlantic to Europe.
It will be followed by the Canadian ship Charlottetown from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, later this month.
"Scheduled over several years, Steadfast Defender 24 will highlight NATO's ability to rapidly deploy troops from North America and other parts of the Alliance to strengthen Europe's defense," the statement said.
Steadfast Defender-24 will take place in several locations until May 31, 2024.
"The Alliance will demonstrate its ability to strengthen the Euro-Atlantic region through the transatlantic movement of troops from North America," said Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Christopher Cavoli.
According to the media center, this will be the first large-scale NATO exercise to put the new defense plans into practice.
