The EU is monitoring reports of corruption in the supply of certain types of weapons to Ukraine, but hopes that the Ukrainian authorities are able to conduct a proper investigation.

EU spokesman Peter Stano said this on Monday in Brussels during a press briefing, answering questions from journalists, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"We are aware of these reports of corruption in the delivery of certain types of weapons to Ukraine. We are in contact with the Ukrainian authorities and we know that they are investigating. We are closely monitoring what is happening in this regard. We have no doubt that the Ukrainians will conduct a proper investigation," Stano said.

In turn, European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer added that EU assistance is aimed at supporting state functions in Ukraine, including the fight against corruption.

"Of course, EU assistance is also provided to ensure that the Ukrainian state is able to function properly. This includes the governance system and the fight against corruption," said the European Commission spokesman.
