Poroshenko sees no threat to Ukraine from Transnistria
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko sees no possibility for escalation of the situation in Ukraine from Transnistria.
This is reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine."I see no possibility for escalation of the situation in Ukraine from Transnistria. ... What gives me this confidence? Lack of common border between Russia and Transnistria," he said at a press conference in Odesa on Tuesday.
The president also stressed that Ukraine had enough forces in the Transnistrian area near the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, in particular, the National Guard units.
"Unfortunately, I lack the same confidence regarding the occupied areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the president stated, noting that the escalation in the east of Ukraine can be stopped only by a concerted action of the international community.
