Avakov: Detained bomb-thrower appeared to be Svoboda party member
It was not a bullet but grenade shrapnel that caused death of the National Guard soldier during today’s clashes near the Verkhovna Rada.
Interior Minister Arsen Avakov wrote on Twitter, Censor.NET reports.
He also informed that the member of Svoboda party who threw a grenade at the law enforcers has been detained.
"As for killed 24 years-old soldier Debrin from Kherson - it was shrapnel that pierced his heart, not a bullet. The detained thrower was member of Svoboda party and servicemen of the Sich special designation police battalion," Avakov wrote.
Avakov said at a press briefing later: "The person, who threw a grenade has been detained. His name is Ihor Humeniuk. He employed a defensive hand grenade... One grenade was seized from him during the arrest, while he used another one and admitted it. The joint pin was also found with him. He said to be member of Svoboda party and servicemen of the Sich special designation police battalion on leave from Aug. 3 to Sept. 3."
