West should stop calling on Zelenskyy to hold peace talks - Kallas

Kaja Kallas on negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

There is no point in putting pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss peace when Russian dictator Vladimir Putin shows no desire to end the war.

According to Censor.NET, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said this in an interview with the Financial Times.

She emphasized that possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia were discussed on the eve of the EU leaders' summit.

"There is no point in pushing Zelenskyy to talk when Putin does not want to talk. We cannot talk about peacekeepers when there is no peace. And why is there no peace? Because Russia does not want peace," Kallas said.

Donald Trump has previously announced his intention to cut off military aid to Ukraine and encourage Kyiv to negotiate a ceasefire, forcing EU countries to reconsider strategies to support Ukraine in such a scenario.

"It is much cheaper to support Ukraine now than to suffer a war later. Russia has not changed its goals. I mean, we have to be very honest with ourselves in this regard. What are we really doing now?" Callas said.

As a reminder, British Defense Secretary John Healey said that the West should not be intimidated by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's nuclear threats. We need to help Ukraine more and put pressure on Putin.
