Kyiv City Council voted to allocate over UAH 5 billion from city budget to support military - Klytschko

The Kyiv City Council has allocated more than UAH 5 billion to support the military.
This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klytschko, Censor.NET reports.
"We have to adopt the first changes to the city budget for 2025. And allocate more than UAH 5 billion to support the Defense and Security Forces. In particular, 4.9 billion will be allocated to the Kyiv Defender program. We are additionally allocating more than UAH 93 million for social protection of female and male veterans. Another UAH 10 million is envisaged as a subvention from the capital to the State Budget of Ukraine to ensure defense measures," Vitalii Klytschko said during the session.
The mayor also said that Kyiv deputies propose to the Verkhovna Rada to amend the Budget Code to allow communities to plan in advance their expenditures to support the Defense Forces.
"The existing provisions of the Budget Code limit the ability of local councils, including the Kyiv City Council, to finance the urgent needs of the Defense Forces. Today, we can only use the budget balances that are formed at the end of the year and the funds from the overperformance of the budget revenues. This does not meet the challenges our country faces. Therefore, we will appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to amend the Budget Code. This will allow local communities to plan expenditures to support our military and terrorist defense in advance - when forming the budget," Klitschko emphasized.
It was also reported that Kyiv City Council members voted to increase the one-time financial aid for mobilized Kyiv residents to UAH 50 thousand, which was initiated by Vitalii Klytschko.
