It’s time for Russia and Ukraine to make hard choice and end war, - US at UN
The United States called on both Russia and Ukraine at the UN to ‘make a difficult choice’ and stop hostilities, stressing that the United States is making efforts to reach a settlement and is aware of the complexity of the process.
According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, this was stated at a meeting of the Security Council by Chargé d'Affaires of the US Permanent Representative to the UN Dorothy Shea.
"We are aware that it will be difficult to reach an agreement, but it is time for Russia and Ukraine to make a difficult choice and stop the fighting," the US representative said.
She recalled President Trump's statements about the need to achieve a lasting peace.
In this context, Shea noted that the United States has maintained close contact with its Ukrainian counterparts throughout the war, calling it a ‘conflict’.
"Last week, we also started a direct dialogue with Russia. And as Secretary Rubio said after the talks in Riyadh, the United States and Russia have committed to negotiating an end to the conflict," the American diplomat continued.
She noted that the ceasefire should be ‘long-lasting and acceptable to all parties involved’.
As a reminder, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is allegedly preventing a peaceful settlement of the war.
