Trump’s speech shows softening of position on Ukraine, - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Budrys

In his speech to Congress, US President Donald Trump demonstrated a certain softening of his position on Ukraine after a discussion with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.

This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Censor.NET reports citing LRT.

Budris believes that diplomatic efforts towards Ukraine are "bearing fruit".

"We see signs of more active engagement and a certain softening of the position - we also see some positive things," he said.

He also noted that the American leader's speech focused mainly on domestic issues.

"As we saw, much less attention was paid to foreign policy... We were hoping for a clearer direction in this direction," the minister said.

At the same time, Budris does not consider the absence of references to US defense policy to be critical.

"Because this event was aimed primarily at American citizens and lawmakers whose priorities lie elsewhere," he summarized.

Trump's speech in the US Congress

Donald Trump said that he had received an "important letter" from Volodymyr Zelenskyy about his intention to sign a deal on fossil fuels and his willingness to sit down at the negotiating table to bring a lasting peace closer. At the same time, he noted that his administration is in serious discussions with the Russian side. Trump emphasized that he had received "powerful signals that they (Russians - Ed.) are ready for peace."
