Something like exchange of territories for future security guarantees - Waltz on content of peace agreement

The Trump Administration believes that a peace agreement could include something like a territory swap for security guarantees. However, negotiations are still ongoing.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz in an interview on ABC News.
The journalist asked Waltz whether he agrees with the position on a possible peace agreement regarding Ukraine, voiced by Fox News host Sean Hannity. In this scenario, the United States would be present in Ukraine through an agreement on rare earth metals, and European troops would possibly be involved, and Ukraine would not become a NATO member. Instead, some territories, including part of Donbas, could fall under Russian control.
In response, Waltz noted that similar negotiations have been underway since 2022 and even earlier.
According to him, a possible compromise could involve the exchange of territories for security guarantees for Ukraine and the determination of its future status.
It would be something like an exchange of territories for future security guarantees, the issue of Ukraine's future status. We discussed this, and as the defense minister stated at the NATO defense ministers' meeting, a permanent path or permanent membership of Ukraine in NATO is extremely unlikely. And this is the position of not only the United States, but also a number of other countries," he said.
Waltz also added that the main components of a possible deal are already known.
According to him, negotiations are currently underway with both sides to find a way to sit down at the negotiating table and stop the war and stop the loss of life through "shuttle diplomacy."
At the same time, when asked by the journalist whether a potential peace agreement means handing over Donbas to Russia and keeping Crimea for it, Waltz said that this issue should be considered in terms of realism and the US national interest.
We have to ask ourselves: is this in our national interest? Is it realistic? We discussed this with Europeans and Ukrainians. Can we really drive every Russian out of every inch of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea... We are literally losing hundreds of thousands of people in a few months, and this could turn into World War III," he said.
Waltz also emphasized that, in addition to moral assessments of the situation, it is also necessary to take into account the real circumstances.
"We can talk about what is right and what is wrong. But we also have to talk about the real state of affairs. And that's what we're doing through diplomacy, shuttle diplomacy, and close-range negotiations," the Trump adviser summarized.
